You can carry four weapons at a time, and most of the weapons I’ve unlocked so far feel fun to use.
Ziggurat 2 is, at the time of this review, easily one of my favorite FPS Roguelites in a genre that is slowly growing in size: Cohesive, colorful, packed full of content, and just complex enough to elevate the gameplay above a mindless FPS.
This means each quest can feel slightly different, which helps to keep the game feeling interesting even after you’ve beaten several dungeons.
It's got a real Hexxen vibe, especially on levels where the penalty is retro graphics.
At lower difficulty levels, players are free to tackle the dungeons like a laid back shooter...but it's at higher difficulty levels where I feel like the game really shines, with a greater emphasis on planning out your build and leaning into the character, tools, and perks you have on hand.
The expanding roster also provides additional reasons to experiment rather than becoming permanently attached to a single character.
