Not too hard to get the mechanics down and you definitely don't need to be an expert in chemistry to enjoy it.
If anything, the (relative) ease of coming up with *something*, *anything* as long as it gets the job done is more than offset by a much increased difficulty in optimizing a solution.
All emitters work at the same time, so multitasking is key if you want good optimization scores.
Although I eventually grew to enjoy the game's bleak and detached art style - especially the ambient soundtrack with its peculiar mix of coldness, unease and futuristic marvel deserves a mention - the gameplay became so tedious around the final level tiers that I'm not sure if I want to finish the main campaign.
