One of my favorite new platforming mechanics is when you have to jump on a boulder and roll down a hill while avoiding obstacles.
It serves as a spiritual successor to Battle for Bikini Bottom, particularly the Rehydrated edition, and continues to build on that foundation with modern visuals, refined controls, and a fresh multiverse-spanning narrative.
For one of the rare occasions in history, a developer made an unreal game with stylized, show-faithful graphics and it actually runs smooth due to the genuine effort of a real optimization.
Combat feels responsive, with the new array of attacks at Spongebob's disposal being very fun to use.
The cutscenes have the recognizable Spongebob music you would hear when watching a Spongebob episode and the levels have their own unique and memorable soundtrack to fit the theme of the level.
On top of that, this is fully enjoyable on the Steam Deck and those little tweaks really make a difference to stability and saving battery.
