I love the "top down" tactical planning and giving of orders that makes up almost the entirety of the core gameplay (next to the "overworld" choose your own adventure/ressource management aspects of the chosen campaign as a whole.
The campaign tells a fun lighthearted story which is a good conduit for the variance of battles to take part in.
Combat rewards thoughtful planning rather than raw speed, as players can pause the game to carefully analyze enemy movements, reposition units, and coordinate attacks.
Visually, Winter Falling embraces a minimalist yet effective art style built around a top-down 2D perspective.
Overall, this is a game with a good amount of depth, and yet it is surprisingly easy to pick up and play, since there is not much of a learning curve once you've fought the initial tutorial battle.
