Even when the script falters, the music, atmosphere, and visuals do much of the emotional lifting, helping to evoke the introspective tone the story strives for.

On paper, Gripper sounds like my ideal gaming experience: a challenging, Akira-inspired boss rush on cyberwheels, set in a strange, apocalyptic world that’s infused with a high-stakes, emotionally-charged story, interesting grappling hook combat, an upgrade system, unlockable cosmetics, two distinct game modes, and to top it all off a furious dark synth score.
