It improves the previous one in graphics, physics, track design and game mechanics, but it has only 12 tracks and was stripped out of fundamental options, like the ability to host games.
Multiplayer also gets a boost here, with local split-screen for up to four players and online races supporting up to eight.
Pair that with the fact the difficulty increases stupendously as you progress throughout the game.
One of the most immediately noticeable upgrades is the massive expansion of the character roster.
It takes some extra software to configure the wheel as a controller, but it's a smooth experience now and fun to play.
