What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The blend of real-time fleet combat, exploration, and strategy feels fresh, especially in a clearly hand-crafted world where even the structures on the islands can be destroyed.
I did love that, in lieu of descriptive clarity, one could still notice certain mechanics to certain details (i.e. speed being "speed on the tactical map", pertaining to literally any manner of landbased interaction/encounter, as compared to campaign map speed, uniquely a trait of the explorer captain archetype, influencing world map speed).
Furthermore, the atmosphere is extremely well made--you feel like you are on the high seas with the wonderful visuals and the spot on sound effects (music, sailing, cannon fire, swords hitting!).
Sound design is solid but can blank out if firing too many guns.
I'm looking forward to more campaign and story-type content being released over time.
