Windswept has all the best stuff you'd want from a challenging 2D platformer in the vein of DKC2. 2 playable characters with unique skills, moves you can only use in tandem, local co-op, a very charming visual style and soundtrack, and TONS of stuff to collect.
This game feels like it was made for players in a lot of ways, casual players can experience the main game with its optional challenge, completionists have lots to complete, speedrunners have a bevvy of tools and options at their disposal, even goofballs who just came for silly animations have lots to choose from, and the soundtrack is very good.
If you have less experience with precision platformers or simply don't enjoy that type of gameplay, that couple of levels (possibly most bonus and postgame levels, even) might end up being a lot more frustrating than fun.
The music is fine, but only has a couple of standout tracks, the graphics are perfectly serviceable, and the boss fights are... certainly present in the game; Things that would usually get me sneering.
There are other interesting modifiers / accessibility options - so while there are a lot of modern improvements/ refinements to the game-play, those wanting to re-create the SNES era can basically do so, which is a cool addition I wasn't expecting.
The art design in general, is stunning & the pixel art looks wonderful on my 1440p monitor or my Steam Deck.

Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
