If anything I kind of feel like the gameplay is on par with the bureaucracy and burnout outlined in the game.
If you try to button mash, it will punish you for that - but the combos are so basic, that you can string whatever combination of melee, spell, or cloak abilities with seamless transition if you pay attention to your cooldowns and or mana usage.
The art is really cute and there's a lot to like about it, however, all the floors began to meld together and feel the same because everything was the same muted monochrome visuals.
As a story and messages in dialogues, characters and enviroments there are a lot of things to unpack I think.
Even though there is no voice acting, the writing, characters, and story are absolutely hilarious, and the lore is beyond clever. the different spells, special attacks, and main weapons are very fun and very different from each other, which adds so much to replayability.
Death as a playable character is incredibly fun due to all the variation he has.
