What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Combat, world-building, music, mechanics, level design (despite the second part of the game), are all pretty good.
Gunplay is simplistic but I do think that the mobility options that you're given and the pretty good enemy variety (especially in the second area) make combat genuinely exciting. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, a drug that allows you to slow down time, is a surprisingly useful resource, especially if you need to focus on taking down a single enemy or dashing in to grab a body for healing while under gunfire.
The environment and worldbuilding feels like it's drawing from a lot of inspirations to make something genuinely unique and interesting, and I think the low-poly visuals are taken good advantage of to make everything feel genuinely grotesque and alien.
Soundtrack is really awesome and distinct though and in general I'd love to see the biopunk Gajeshan cultists and green skinned q-melanin infused interstellar colonists in yurts used in a future game without all these issues.
The pre-game character customization and seed system give the game a nice amount of replay value and the inventory system gives players a way to experiment with different builds.
