Exploration felt enjoyable, there was a long story that threaded the whole game together, and there were numerous side activities like questing, crafting, collecting bunnies that can be returned for rewards, and a mini-game called e'sowa.
Star Ocean is a fun action based JRPG that builds on the long running franchise of Star Ocean and is arguably one of their best games.
It feels familiar while still having some new pizzazz with how the action combat is and the movement with the DUMA system (lets you dash through the air).
I personally had a lot of fun with the combat and exploration systems of the game, the cast of characters is lively and varied, and in terms of audio and visuals there are some very sweet spots, even if getting used to the pseudo-doll-like character models might divide some people.
Some voice acting is decent on its own but paired with how the character is animating can be odd, the game uses a lot of the same animations and tries to fit them to the scene with some varying success.
Character customization is awesome and the crafting system is a nice addition.
