While the narrative won’t blow anyone away, it serves its purpose well, tying the game’s levels and progression together in a satisfying loop of rescue and revenge.
While 60fps is unideal, it's higher than on PS1 and the visuals in general look way better, if a bit generic.
The soundtrack is catchy and upbeat, maintaining the franchise's playful tone while giving each level its own musical identity.
Playing on Steamdeck with no problems at all, it just started right away, Steam states unsupported but i'm nearly 1.5hrs in with no issues.
The models for every character are well-made, level environments leave the player in awing admiration for the world around them, and the cutscenes--either for the story or boss sequences--are captivating to watch.
Being able to use the controller stick AND keyboard at the exact same time to run and jump (instead of other games that program for one OR the other at a time, and you have to switch constantly which is no good for me).
