What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
And once I got used to the game's controls, I did find myself having a lot of fun with mechanics that felt novel, particularly compared to today's games which often follow the same cookie-cutter solutions for game mechanics.
It looks better than an NES game, and the 2D art for the portraits is surprisingly good, but the tiling textures and basic lighting don't really hold up.
Some things that REALLY stand out to me about this game: the EXCELLENT soundtrack, the humor of the writing for this game, the challenge this game offers.
The overall story is fun and light-hearted, and the cut-scenes deliver beautifully created portraits and snappy, hilarious dialogue.
The combat zones have been modernized while still giving them a vibrant, colorful feel that makes it feel like a game in a good way.
It's also fully playable in coop mode both via local coop and via streaming (Steam's Play Together) on top of featuring a multiplayer versus mode that supports up to 4 players.
