with these fixes in place, wow what a game this is. you really can roleplay as whatever character archetype you want and the game will respond in kind, it treats some of your smallest choices with so much respect. actions you take within your first few hours of playing will shape the rest of your playthrough and/or will get some kind of acknowledgement by major characters even 50 hours in. you can play the whole game without using vats at all and just clicking heads with a bolt action rifle in the heat of combat as I've mostly done, or sneak around and stealth kill your way through the game and play in an entirely different manner
This game has it all if you like good narrative and fun gameplay.
The graphics are passable, I doubt they ever were great.
The companions are some of the best in any RPG—Boone's quiet intensity, Arcade's sarcastic intellect, Veronica's mix of strength and vulnerability, Cass's drunken Irish charm—they all have depth and great voice acting.
The engine is like a school made game project let's be honest lol but luckily the steam deck runs it smooth as butter, despite it still crashing about 30 times in a span of 60 hours.
It plays great on Linux and SteamDeck.
