What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The story itself is interesting - more so if you've played pillars 1/2 because there is quite a bit of lore in this world to understand.
In combat the sound effects are powerful and satisfying - you can hear the wood of a shield being hit, or metal if it's a steel shield, the pistols/rifles if you use them sound satisfying: you can hear the click of the hammer, the powder exploding, and the round leaving the barrel; They spent a lot of time it seems getting it right and it just adds to the satisfaction.
This game got some bad reviews initially but they've added quite a bit in the latest patches for talent builds and stuff to help offset the initial complaints.
The graphics are really nice, I wouldn't go as far as saying their like "realistic" but they're certainly crisp looking and have enough detail to give you a sense of the beauty of the living lands.
The character customization is pretty in-depth, with quite a bit of customization options.
Although some of the party members (Kai) see more love than others (Yatzli), everyone has a strong role to play and great voice acting.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No themes split opinion in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway.
