Call of Duty remains a mechanically engaging and historically important shooter whose strengths lie in its squad-based combat and AI scripting, even if aging gunplay systems and a weak narrative presentation hold it back.
Call Of Duty's well-recognised addictive gameplay is noticeable even in its first entry here.
Though this franchise has become a good example of how garbage modern triple A games are, the original Call Of Duty from 2003 is an outstanding accomplishment for the FPS genre.
-It’s been a long time, so I can’t tell whether the graphics would’ve been amazing if I had played this in 2003, but I thought they were great (though my graphics card in 2025 blows cards from that era out of the water) and even hold up well enough today.
Multiplayer is surprisingly still a bit active.
The music and voice acting for their time were great (no “Jill sandwich” lines here!), and the plots were interesting.
