There are many different playstyles, from summoners to warriors, archers, and mages.

Platformer movement makes things both easier and more interesting, combat isn't stats-vs-stats.
The visuals are a bit weird at first, but tend to solve some of the biggest problems Terraria had with its visual design (things getting lost in a mess of pixels.) Characters and enemies are 3D and clearly in the foreground, whereas terrain remains 2D and static.
