What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Sandbox-style play highlights the depth of the simulation, letting players explore how different colonist combinations, layouts, and priorities affect long-term stability.
However, this uniqueness doesn't apply to Stronghold Crusader, which has the best pre-rendered graphics.
the game is as entertaining as i remembered. it's not just nostalgia speaking, the characters are ridiculous, the story is very realistic (vicious capitalist space corporation) and the colony management aspect works well, especially considering it's one of the first of it's kind.
The interface and learning curve can be demanding, especially for new players.
The expressive animations and voice acting give the colonists personality, reinforcing the idea that these are characters with moods and opinions rather than faceless workers.
The best strat for combat in game is just to pause the time and simply place forcefields around aliens, and block them with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ biodomes (even the strongest enemies in game take ages to destroy those).
