Although the overall quality of both is pretty compressed and dated by modern standards, the music and sound design is another clear improvement over the first game.

I personally prefer this over the first game because not only does it give the gameplay more variety thanks to the different types of vehicles, but also progressing from beat-up junkyard scrap-buckets to sleek, street-tuned sports cars gives the whole career mode a much more satisfying "grind to glory" kind of vibe.

The carnage is there in both career and multiplayer, the graphics are vibrant and still stand to this day while running very good.

Multiplayer adds extra fun as friends crash and fly in spectacular ways.

Crashes feel brutal in a satisfying way, and the physics-heavy handling keeps races interesting.

And now, on top of everything else, in the last couple of years, we have been receiving updates that not only fix old bugs, but also add some much-needed features, such as support for more screen ratios, a workshop, achievements, improved controller support (including full support for the Steam Deck), and many other things.
