I love family gameplay but I found being a terrible sim much more fun.
Better looking graphics and overall the optimized game runs a lot smoother than its old versions.
It ran just fine on a 42" 4K monitor, punching out like 80 FPS, which for the Sims 2 is insane to me.
I would recommend playing on Steam deck if you already own the console.
A brilliant story generator guided by you: make it cosy, make it chaotic; delve into the lore or create your own dynasty; micro-manage everything or watch what unfolds.
this version is completely stable, maybe even moreso on linux than on windows. i have nothing to compare it to except the old ultimate collection, and i haven't had a single crash, pink soup, etc. mods just as easily as before too. don't be fooled by the steam page though, it does NOT have cloud save enabled (even though it says it does)
