What players think
The recurring themes across 137 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
It started off great, I completed the tutorial section without much difficulty, I thought the movement system was neat and I was excited to head on to the game proper, the Derelict Star space station.
Its movement system is deep and intricate, supporting both flowing high-speed gameplay and slow deliberate spike weaving.
Also, I have to say that the minimalist sound design is pretty fantastic - I love the popping and clicking in the green tubes that the slime makes, and the synthy soundtrack helps sell a sense of wistful isolation without feeling like it's just stealing Metroid's vibe.
Every single element of the HUD is meaningful, though it will take a bit of trial an error before you realize the significance of each element.
