What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The level design is very engaging and I had fun exploring all the maps and their unique layouts.
Crunchy sound effects, amazing OST, gorgeous artstyle (slightly nuMarathon coded but closer to PS1 era graphics and style like Wipeout) and tight, fast gameplay.
The blocky level features and bright textures, the character portrait and all the visual noise on the HUD, even the menus and fonts all feed into it.
The levels are open, allow for you to come up with creative routes, and demand more than just spamming weapons.
It gives off the impression that it will melt your computer, but the optimization is so incredible I barely ever stutter.
I think one thing that sets this game apart so well is the fact that the difficulty isn't just in the movement mechanics; Ultrakill's movement skill is based on precise timing and complex maneuvers, while CICADAMATA"'s is based on applying a relatively simple moveset on optimal routes throught a level.
