It's way more challenging than other Build games, demanding a lot more attention and knowledge on weapon and enemy mechanics.

The combat system remains gloriously violent and imaginative, anchored by one of the most eclectic arsenals in any classic FPS.

It added proper gamepad support with a weapon wheel and rumble (the original controls were still there too); we were able to switch between MIDI and CD music at any time; it added split-screen/local co-op; the multiplayer was replaced with a modern online thing, etc.

The remaster doesn’t attempt to simplify these labyrinthine spaces; instead, it enhances their readability through sharper detail and more stable lighting.

Co-op mode allows players to tackle the campaign together with fewer desynchronization issues, while classic competitive modes like Bloodbath remain a nostalgic callback to LAN-party mayhem.

Keyboard, mouse and Gamepad controls are fully customizable (thankfully since not every default bind makes sense e.g. the weapon carousel being Lshift by default) The game follows a more fleshed out version of the standard "get keys for doors, progress, kill everything" format as made popular by Wolf3D Doom, etc. with levels having up to 6 keys to collect.
