Lifts a Boulder is a small, whimsical exploration platformer developed and published by Alexander Golke that draws inspiration from the world of the Touhou Project while focusing on a simple but charming gameplay premise.
Absolutely stellar graphics that are on par with real life, and extremely optimized for that matter as well.
The soundtrack helps reinforce the sense that the adventure is meant to be enjoyed casually rather than treated as an intense challenge.
This simple premise is great for a story about Cirno as it ties in her personal quest to be “the strongest” and fits the silliness that Touhou fairies are known for.
Collectibles give you more points (which its only function is to flex on how high of a score you can get) if you chain them, which makes trying to collect them as efficiently as possible fun and the mandatory collectible are well spread, but not too unforgiving to find the missing ones.
Lo and behold, the game and the controller felt perfect together and it truly was just like as if I was playing a retro game.
