The game also features a very strong synthwave soundtrack, with each level featuring tracks from a different composer.
So, every battle is a pretty linear learning process — also thanks to the facts that all the attacks are telegraphed in a good visual and auditory way and that it is often possible to hit back the boss even if you fail to parry/dodge their attack (which doesn't allow to brute-force bossfights, but it helps in keeping the momentum and in building up damage throughout the phase).
With tight gameplay, striking visuals, and an outstanding soundtrack, it stands as one of the most distinct and disciplined action games of its generation.
Despite a low budget and some below-average voice acting, it delivers a thought-provoking narrative that exceeded my expectations.
Up close certain textures might seem a little cheap and blurry, and when the game tries to show human faces up close they seem a little like plastic action figures, but overall designs are so strong and overwhelming you don't really notice it.
