What players think
The recurring themes across 194 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Built around precise movement, difficult enemy encounters, and straightforward progression, the game feels like a deliberate tribute to older generations of side-scrolling action games that valued mechanical skill above accessibility.
The graphics are pixelly, the music catchy, and the sword swinging pretty fluid.
It combines the nail biting action of NES era without all the bulls*** plagueing modern gaming including, but not limited to: good graphics, good music, expensive price-tag, handholding, themes, voice acting, extensive story, a cancerous community, and mainstream appeal.
The result creates combat that feels intentionally old-fashioned in ways that will appeal strongly to players who appreciate classic action design.
I like the music a lot, but I tried playing the Doom OST instead and it just works.
