Multiplayer is pretty well made with its simulated arcade rooms, and the frame-delay netcode used for compensating lag quite good

I can only speculate it began when someone watched too much shonen anime while playing wildly mistuned guitar in a garage and decided to put them both in a blender and I dare to say some folk may have encountered the name purely due to its pretty rocking soundtrack.
