What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The game also builds real metaphor into its themes — not showing death directly, for instance, but an apple decaying — and it left me thinking through the ending during the credits, which is rare for me.
-The Gameplay: While the presentation aspect of the game does the heavy lifting, the gameplay also does it's best to immerse you into the world of ROUTINE.
Sound design is INCREDIBLE here, anything from antagonist footsteps, machines whirring up, tape recorders that give story elements sound like actual tape recorders did (I am old so I can tell you this factually)- they all sounds immersive!
The tension is built almost entirely through visuals and sound — the handheld device uses a squared oscilloscope-style screen, and items slot in like modules on a VHS camcorder, each with its own distinct, satisfying sound.
I played the entire thing at above 100 FPS with no bugs, crashes, or glitches.
Fully optimized and runs smooth as silk, it is VISUALLY one of the coolest looking games I have ever played and I have played a ton.
