What players think
The recurring themes across 71 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Combined with a quirky fantasy world, campaign, AI skirmishes, multiplayer, and user-created maps, it provides a satisfying alternative to more conventional turn-based strategy games.
The mechanics are streamlined enough to understand without spending hours studying complicated rules, yet there is sufficient depth to reward experimentation.
The current state of Early Access looks good, enough content to play some hours (or unlimited in skirmish/online multiplayer), lots of different units and cards with special effects.
Some players may wish its strategic framework were deeper or its community larger, but the unusual combination of prediction-based combat and deck construction gives it an identity that remains distinctive.
The graphics and battle map remind me of the card game Faeria, whereas the simultaneous orders of tactical combat is like the 4x game Endless Legend.
And the soundtrack is haunting and ethereal--my new favorite!
