What players think
The recurring themes across 99 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The game hasn't aged particularly well, and the shoddy translation job doesn't do it any favours, but there is a decent story here, and for a seasoned reader of visual novels, there can be quite a bit of fun in recognising tropes and character archetypes that likely inspired beloved characters from other franchises.
The first act - which has branching timelines, uses the save/load mechanic as a narrative tool, and lets the player collect and use items to alter outcomes - is legitimately pretty cool.
Music plays a crucial role in reinforcing emotional beats, and the soundtrack effectively supports both quiet introspective moments and dramatic revelations.
The art style did change and this might annoy people that played the 1995 version first but to me who didn't know about that version, I really appreciate the current art style which is beautiful.
