What players think
The recurring themes across 66 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
I don't feel like the re-use of cards was really an issue like other reviewers say, the different mechanics definitely spices up the game enough to endure seeing a few duplicate spells.
This plot seemed to be basically "You're stuck with nightmares, defeat them to win", but as it proceeds, it gets way more interesting than that, and the final boss of the game was seriously someone I didn't expect in the slightest, in the end, it's one of my favorite plots of a Touhou game.
Every spell card (well, after a few stages) feels like a puzzle and they're properly challenging for someone who plays Normal difficulty in the shmups (me).
